ANGELA MERKEL has revealed her plans for deeper European Union (EU) integration in a plot which would see Germany call the shots with France over the bloc’s future. Mrs Merkel and Mr Macron marked the shifting teutonic plates of power within the bloc with the two countries re-emerging as the driving force of the union in a joint press statement at the EU summit last week.
The two leaders put on a united display of unity marking the close of the two-day summit that at times was far from unified with cracks appearing in a number of areas, most notably between Hungary and France over accepting migrant quotas.
Mr Macron said: “When France and Germany speak with one voice, Europe can move forward. Sometimes it is not enough, but it is a necessary condition. “It is more than a symbol, it is a work ethic.”
